MAINTENANCE OF ERUMBEESWARAR TEMPLE, THIRUVERUMBUR UNDER ASI
1323. SHRI DURAI VAIKO:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that the Erumbeeswarar Temple in
Thiruverumbur, Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu, a monument protected by the
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), is in need of urgent maintenance and
conservation;
(b) if so, whether any recent inspection or assessment has been carried out by the
ASI regarding the structural condition and preservation needs of the monument;
(c) whether the Government has formulated or approved any plan for restoration,
conservation and improvement of visitor amenities at the said temple;
(d) if so, the details and timeline thereof; and
(e) if not, whether the Government is likely to consider for taking immediate steps to
restore and maintain this important Chola-period monument in coordination with
the ASI Trichy Circle?

(a) The Erumbeeswarar Temple in Thiruverumbur, Tiruchirappalli district is a
& centrally protected monument under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
(b) Conservation, preservation and maintenance of the Erumbeeswarar Temple is a
continuous process and is taken up as per the requirement and availability of
resources. Inspections are carried out regularly in the monument. Recently; the
ASI inspected the monument and assessed the structural condition and identified
chemical preservation works required in the temple.
(c) Conservation / restoration works were taken up in FY 2022-23, including lime
to punning of vimana, minor repairs to stucco figures, water tightening, de-plastering
