MINING LEASES HELD BY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE COMPANIES
5343. SHRI BAPI HALDAR:
Will the Minister of MINES be pleased to state:
(a) the number of mining leases held by public sector companies and private
companies in the country till date, State-wise;
(b) the details of list of lease-holders, mineral mined, place of mining, name of the
mine and area along with year of grant, company-wise;
(c) the number of leases that are operational and non-operational along with the
reasons for non-operation, company-wise; and
(d) the details of royalty and other revenues realised from each company during the
last five years, year-wise?

(a) to (c): As per the information provided by Indian Bureau of Mines, State-wise details
of mining leases of major minerals held by public and private companies are given at
Annexure-I. State-wise mineral-wise number of working and non-working mines are
given at Annexure-II. The mines are currently non-working mainly due to non-
availability of or non-compliance with statutory clearances, lack of availability of
suitable grade mineral, uneconomic operations, court matters/ litigation, blocks falling
under Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZs) or notified wildlife/ tiger corridors, and other factors
such as land acquisition and local issues.
(d): As per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957
and the Rules framed thereunder, grant of mineral concessions and collection of
revenues from the same fall within the purview of State Governments. As per the
information provided by Indian Bureau of Mines, State-wise and year-wise details of
revenue generated in the country during last five years is given at Annexure-III.
