Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to expand the Mission Amrit Sarovar–Jal Dharohar Sanrakshan
Programme to cover more traditional water bodies across the country including in Kerala particularly in
Malappuram Lok Sabha Constituency and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of water bodies identified for conservation and development under this Mission in Kerala
especially in the said Constituency along with the status of approvals and funds sanctioned; and
(c) whether the Government has set any time-bound targets for completing the conservation and development
works of water bodies in Malappuram and if so, the details thereof indicating the implementation plan and
expected timelines?

(a) & (c) Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on April 24, 2022, with the
objective of constructing or rejuvenating 75 Amrit Sarovars in each rural district, aiming for a total of 50,000
Sarovars across the country by August 15, 2023. This initiative was undertaken as a concerted effort to
promote water conservation for future generations.
Building on this momentum, Central Government is implementing Mission Amrit Sarovar Phase II across the
country including Kerala, with a broadened vision that places strong emphasis on community participation.
This phase seeks to deepen the impact of the Mission by encouraging local engagement, thereby ensuring
that the Sarovars serve not only as sustainable water resources but also as vibrant hubs of community life.
No numerical targets are specified by the Government for Phase II, allowing for a flexible and participatory
approach tailored to local needs and capacities.
(b) Total number of Amrit Sarovar constructed/rejuvenated in Kerala is 865. District wise details of Amrit
Sarovar, constructed/rejuvenated under Mission Amrit Sarovar in the State of Kerala is detailed in Annexure
– I.
Block-wise details of Amrit Sarovar, constructed/rejuvenated under Mission Amrit Sarovar in the
Malappuram district (Malappuram Lok Sabha Constituency comprises the 7 Legislative Assembly, all in
Malappuram districts) is detailed in Annexure – II.
Further, as mentioned in Mission Amrit Sarovar Guidelines, funds for construction /rejuvenation of Amrit
Sarovar may be availed from Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, XV Finance Commission Grants, Watershed
Development Component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY-WDC), Pradhan Mantri
Krishi Sinchayee Yojana - Har Khet Ko Pani – Repair, Renovation and Restoration (PMKSY- HKKP-RRR)
or similar schemes from the State/ Central Government either individually or in combination may be
accessed for this purpose.
