GOVERNMENT OFINDIA MINISTRY OFYOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS) RAJYA SABHA UNSTARREDQUESTIONNO- 3192# ANSWEREDON- 19/03/2026 MODERNIZATIONOFSPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE INJHARKHAND 3192#.SHRIDEEPAK PRAKASH Will theMinisterofYOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTSbepleased to state:- (a) thecurrent statusof upgradation and modernizationofsports infrastructure inJharkhand; (b) the number of sports academies and training centers operating in the State and the details of athletes trained there; (c) the details of plans for expansion of facilities for sports science, nutrition, and performance analysis;and (d) whether special programmes are being conducted for identification and training of talents from rural and tribal areas oftheStateand ifso, thedetails thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (DR. MANSUKHMANDAVIYA) (a) to (d) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development of sports, including upgradation and modernization of sports infrastructure, establishment of sports academies and training centres, expansion of facilities for sports science, nutrition and performance analysis, and conducting special programmes for identification and training of talents from rural and tribal areas, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government only supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports implements the following schemes for development of sports in the country, including in the State ofJharkhand: i. Khelo India –National Programmefor Development ofSports; ii. Assistanceto National SportsFederations (NSFs); iii. Cash Incentives toMedal Winners inInternational Sports Events and theircoaches; iv. National Sports Awards; v. Pension toMeritorious Sportspersons; vi. PanditDeendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program forSportspersons; vii. National Sports Development Fund; viii.RunningSports Training centres through Sports Authority ofIndia (SAI); and ix. National Centre forSports Science andResearch (NCSSR). Details of theabove schemes are available inthe public domain onthe websites of this Ministry and the SportsAuthority ofIndia.
