Parliament Question: Monuments and Heritage Conservation in Uttar Pradesh

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.12 ANSWERED ON 01.12.2025 MONUMENTS AND HERITAGE CONSERVATION IN UTTAR PRADESH 12. SHRI JAGDAMBIKA PAL: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) the number and list of Centrally protected monuments and archaeological sites under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Uttar Pradesh, district-wise, particularly in Siddharthnagar along with the year that was declared of national importance; (b) the details of allocation and utilisation of funds for their conservation and maintenance, year- wise from 2019-20 to 2025-26, and the physical progress achieved under related projects; (c) the details of revenue generated through ticket sales at these sites, especially in Siddharthnagar, and its utilisation for site management and visitor facilities; (d) whether ASI or the Government has conducted any structural or climate-vulnerability assessments of such monuments and if so, the details thereof; and (e) whether the Government proposes to include additional sites like Kapilvastu and related Buddhist heritage sites under Central protection and involve local communities, youth and women in their conservation and sustainable tourism? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) There are 735 ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains declared as of national importance in the State of Uttar Pradesh, out of which 05 are located in the district Siddarthnagar. The district-wise details along with the year declared of national importance given are at Annexure. Further, amenities like drinking water, toilets and facilities like benches, pathways, wheel chairs, ramps, signages, Braille signages, etc. are provided at ticketed and World Heritage Monuments. Providing such facilities and upgrading them is a continuous phenomenon. (d) No such specific assessments has been conducted, however, conservation issues caused by natural factors like humidity, rain, sun heat and other climatic factors are taken care of through regular conservation and preservation measures based on requirement and availability of resources, which is a regular phenomenon to ensure better maintenance of protected monument and protected areas.
