(a) whether the Government has allotted any budget/earmarked funds
during the current financial year to build any multipurpose sports
stadium/indoor stadium across the country; and
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the details of released and utilised
therefrom, State/UT and location-wise?

REGARDING “MULTIPURPOSE INDOOR SPORTS STADIUM” ASKED BY
THIRU THANGA TAMILSELVAN, HON’BLE MEMBER OF LOK SABHA.
(a) to (b) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development of
sports, including construction of multipurpose sports stadium/indoor
stadium, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory
Governments. The Union Government only supplements their efforts by
bridging critical gaps. However, under the “Creation and upgradation of
sports infrastructure” component of the Khelo India Scheme, this Ministry
renders financial support for creation of basic sports infrastructure such as
sports complex, synthetic athletic tracks, synthetic hockey fields, synthetic
turf football grounds, multipurpose halls, swimming pools, etc. Further,
under National Sports Development Funds (NSDF), Government supports
various institutions and individuals for creation and upgradation of sports
facilities across the country. In addition, funds are allocated Scheme-wise
and not component-wise in this Ministry. The details of the sports
infrastructure projects approved and their sanctioned cost, funds released
and their physical and financial progress, under Khelo India Scheme and
