“MUSEUMS AND MEMORIALS ON INDIAN FREEDOM MOVEMENT”
1250. SHRI SHAFI PARAMBIL:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) the details of museums, memorials and interpretation centres dedicated exclusively to
the Indian freedom movement, freedom fighters and the national independence
struggle, indicating the year of establishment and the authority managing each
institution, State/UT-wise;
(b) the details of financial assistance provided by the Government for the establishment,
maintenance and modernisation of such museums during the last five years, year and
State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government has undertaken any assessment of the adequacy of such
museums across the country and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any proposals have been received from State Governments for establishing
new museums dedicated to the Indian freedom movement and if so, the details along
with present status thereof; and
(e) the details of the steps taken by the Government to preserve and promote the legacy
of India's freedom movement through museums, digital exhibitions and public
outreach programmes?

(a) & (b) The details of the Museums, Memorials and interpretation centres dedicated to
the Indian freedom movement, freedom fighters and the national independence
struggle is given at Annexure.
(c) No.
(d) No such proposal has been received.(e) The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) undertakes maintenance and upgradation of
museums and exhibitions relating to India's freedom movement, subject to
requirement. ASI organises outreach programmes on important occasions such as
Independence day, Republic Day, World Heritage Day and Week and International
Museum Day, in association with local schools, educational institutions and heritage
stakeholders, to create awareness among children and youth about the legacy of
India's freedom movement.
Further various programmes/exhibitions are carried out throughout the year as per the
events in the museums of the Ministry of Culture to preserve and promote the legacy
of India's freedom movement.ANNEXURE
