Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of various national and international sports
competitions held in the country during the last five years and the
current year, year-wise';
(b) the total number of sportspersons participated in these
competitions, State/UT and year-wise;
(c) the details of the funds utilised on organising the said
competitions, year-wise;
(d) whether the Government has formulated any policy or guidelines
for organising such sports in a systematic manner; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) Responsibility for conducting of national championships
and international events in India is that of the respective
National Sports Federations (NSFs). Exhaustive data with
regard to participation of sportspersons, their numbers and
State/UT affiliate unit-wise participation are maintained by the
concerned NSFs. The Ministry provides financial assistance for
conduct of national championships and international
tournaments in India in terms of the norms prescribed underthe Scheme of Assistance to NSFs, as given in Annexure-I.
In addition, the Central Sector Scheme ‘Khelo India’ has been
operational since the Financial Year 2016–17. Under this
Scheme, various national-level sporting events, including the
Khelo India Youth Games, Winter Games etc. are organized.
Details of the events conducted under the Scheme are placed
at Annexure-II.
(d) & (e): Sports competitions, both national level and international
level, are conducted by the concerned NSFs in terms of the rules and
regulations prescribed by the concerned International Federation.
On its part, the Ministry issues guidelines/instructions from time to
time with regard to transparency and fairness in selection of
sportspersons for participation in international events and
provisioning of proper infrastructure and other facilities to players
during national championships and international tournaments in
India.
The Ministry in April 2015 issued detailed guidelines to NSFs
for providing infrastructure/facilities to players and officials during
national championships and international tournaments in India. The
Ministry has issued instructions in March 2025 regarding selection of
sportspersons in fair and transparent manner for participation in
international events. The Ministry has also issued instructions in May
2025 to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and NSFs regarding hosting
and conduct of National Games and National Championships.
