(a) the total number of projects sanctioned and funds allocated and utilised under
Phase-I (2020-23) and Phase-II (2023-26) of the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission
(NBHM), phase-wise;
(b) the number of projects sanctioned under NBHM in Karnataka, including details of
Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) supported, district-wise;
(c) whether the Government proposes to support the formation of additional
beekeeping-based FPOs, especially in high-potential districts like Shivamogga, Karnataka;
and
(d) whether the Government has plans to expand NBHM interventions in forest-rich and
biodiversity-rich districts such as Shivamogga by supporting training, scientific beekeeping
and market linkages to improve livelihoods and promote local honey clusters?

(a): During the Phase-I (2020-23) of implementation of National Beekeeping and Honey
Mission (NBHM) scheme, 150 projects have been sanctioned for an amount of Rs.
19017.61 lakh and Rs.12997.00 lakh utilized. During Phase-II (2023-26), 202 projects have
been sanctioned for an amount of Rs. 16161.15 lakh and Rs.14525.00 lakh has been
utilized till date.
(b): Under the NBHM scheme, 21 projects have been sanctioned to the implementing
agencies for implementation in the state of Karnataka which include Farmer Producer
Organisations (FPOs) namely, M/s Makaranda Farmer Producer Cooperative SocietyLimited, Uttar Kannada District by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and M/s
Gramajanya Farmer Producer Company Limited, Dakshina Kannada District by Small
Farmers Agri-business Consortium (SFAC).
(c) & (d): Under NBHM, demand-driven project-based assistance is provided to the
implementing agencies including beekeeping based FPOs. Assistance is provided as per
provisions of NBHM guidelines for the interventions. These include awareness, capacity
building, trainings, setting up of requisite infrastructural facilities, viz.; Integrated
Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDCs), Honeybees Disease Diagnostic Labs, Setting/
upgradation of Honey Testing labs, Beekeeping Equipment Manufacturing Units, Custom
Hiring Centres, Development of Quality Nucleus Stock Centre & Bee Breeders, bee-flora
plantation for enhancing biodiversity, Centre for Packaging, Storages, Cold Storage, etc.
Targeted 10,000 FPOs under Central Sector Scheme of Formation & Promotion of 10,000
FPOs have already been registered. A project has been sanctioned to Keladi Shivappa
Nayaka University of Agricultural & Horticultural Sciences, Mudigere, Shivamogga for
establishment of mini honey testing lab with financial assistance of Rs. 101.57 lakhs.
