Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that the University Grants Commission has recently asked all Higher
Educational Institutions in the country to nominate teaching faculty members for onboarding
them as national mentors for training of school teachers under the National Mission for
Mentoring initiative and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether it is a fact that the National Mission for Mentoring aims to create a pool of 1,000
mentors from across the country; and
(c) if so, the total number of nominations received from the Higher Educational Institutions
in this regard?

(a) to (c): The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), a Statutory Body of the
Government of India under Ministry of Education, is implementing the National Mission for
Mentoring (NMM), an initiative under Paragraph 15.11 of NEP 2020. The Mission aims to
establish a nationwide pool of outstanding professionals to provide short and long-term
mentoring support to school teachers for their continuous professional development,
capacity building, and skill enhancement.
NCTE has sought the support of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to request all
universities to nominate Professors and eligible faculty with at least eight years of teaching
experience to serve as National Mentors. Accordingly, the UGC has advised the Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs) for the same.
As on date, a total of 681 nominations for National Mentors have been received from HEIs.
