**Summary:**
The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, launched on July 1st, 2023, aims to eliminate sickle cell disease in India through awareness creation, targeted screening, and provision of affordable, accessible, and quality care. (a) to (c): To eliminate sickle cell disease, Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission has
been launched by Government of India on 1st July, 2023. The objectives of the Mission
are provision of affordable, accessible and quality care to all Sickle Cell Diseased
patients, reduction in the prevalence of Sickle Cell Disease through awareness creation,
targeted screening of 7 crore people till year 2025-26 in the age group of 0-40 years in
affected 17 tribal states and counselling through collaborative efforts of central
ministries andState governments. As on28.07.2025,a totalof 6,04,50,683screening has
beenconductedintotal 365districts.
The primary responsibility of screening and management of Sickle Cell Anaemia along
with raising awareness lies with the respective State/UT Governments. As informed by
Government of Bihar, districts such as Kaimur and Rohtas are not covered under
