Parliament Question: New Railway Lines in Chittorgarh/Pratapgarh/Udaipur

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4365 TO BE ANSWERED ON 18.03.2026 NEW RAILWAY LINES IN CHITTORGARH/PRATAPGARH/UDAIPUR †4365. SHRI CHANDRA PRAKASH JOSHI: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether any survey work has been completed or any proposals are currently under consideration for approval for laying of new railway lines in Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh and Udaipur districts of Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof; (b) the project-wise details of the estimated cost of the ongoing railway projects (new line, doubling) in the said districts and the amount spent so far including the progress/status thereof; (c) the status of administrative/financial approval of new railway lines and doubling projects after completion of their survey; (d) whether the Government is working on any special priority scheme to strengthen rail connectivity in the said districts and if so, the details thereof; and (e) the likely impact of the said projects on regional economic development, tourism, industrial activities and employment generation after completion? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (e): To improve connectivity in Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh and Udaipur districts of Rajasthan, Final Location Surveys (FLS) for following projects have been sanctioned for preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) : (i) Neemuch – Singoli – Begun – Rawatbhata - Kota new line (201 km) (ii) Mandsor – Pratapgarh – Ghatol - Banswara new line (120 km) …2/- §-:2:- (iii) Neemuch – Banswara – Dahod – Alirajpur - Nandurbar new line (380 km) (iv) Chittorgarh – Mavli – Debari Doubling (99 km) After preparation of DPR, sanctioning of project requires consultation with various stake-holders including State Governments and necessary approvals viz. appraisal of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance etc. As sanctioning of projects is a continuous and dynamic process, exact timelines depend upon appraisals and approvals by various stakeholders. Further, works have been taken up for the following projects to enhance connectivity in Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh and Udaipur districts of Rajasthan: (1) Nimach - Badi Sadri New Line (48 km): The work has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹495 crore. Status of the work is as under: Activity Status Land Acquisition Completed Major Bridges 4 out of 7 Major bridges have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. RUBs 9 out of 30 RUBs have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. Station Building 2 out of 6 station buildings have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. (2) Mavil - Devgarh Madariya Gauge Conversion (83 km): The work has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹969 crore. Status of the work is as under: Activity Status Land Acquisition Completed Major Bridges 6 out of 10 Major Bridges have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. RUBs 38 out of 64 RUBs have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. Station Building 4 out of 7 station buildings have been completed and work has been taken up in balance. ...3/--:3:- (3) Ajmer-Chanderiya Doubling (178 km): The work has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹1635 crore. Status of the work is as under: Activity Status Land Acquisition 75 Ha out of 114 Ha has been completed and Land acquisition has been taken up for balance land. Major Bridges Work has been taken up for 16 Major Bridges. RUBs Work has been taken up for 31 RUBs. Station Building 1 out of 13 station buildings has been completed and work has been taken up in balance. (4) Umra – Udaipur - Debari Doubling (25 km): The project has been sanctioned in Decemeber-2025 at a cost of ₹492 crore. The project has been declared as ‘Special Railway Project’ and Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) has been appointed. Land Acquisition has been taken up. Rajasthan Railway Budget: Budget allocation in the recent years has increased significantly. Sanction of any railway project depends upon many parameters/factors which include the following:  Anticipated traffic projections and Remunerativeness of the proposed route  First and last mile connectivity provided by the project  Connection of missing links and providing additional route  Augmentation of congested/saturated lines  Demands raised by State Governments/Central Ministries/Public representatives,  Railway's own operational requirements  Socio-economic considerations  Overall availability of funds Completion of Railway project/s depends on various factors which include the following:  Land acquisition by State Government  Forest clearance  Shifting of infringing utilities  Statutory clearances from various authorities  Geological and topographical conditions of area  Law and order situation in the area of project site  Number of working months in a year for particular project site etc. All these factors affect the completion time and cost of the project/s. ...8/--:8:- Railway Infrastructure projects enable socio-economic development of the region including:  Better integration of the region with other parts of the country  Faster movement of goods and services  Improving logistics efficiency  Enhance line capacity  Increase in direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of the region  Reduces operational bottlenecks  Development of tourism industry and increase in industrial activities in the region. *****
