SHRI RAHUL GANDHI: SHRI P V MIDHUN REDDY: Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has any roadmap for providing 1 crore internships over the next four years under the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) and if so, the details thereof along with the internships planned for 2024-25; (b) the details of applications received, internships offered and accepted in both, round 1 and round 2 of the Scheme along with the number of youths currently doing the internship under the Scheme, State-wise and Company-wise; (c) whether the Government proposes to increase the stipend offered to interns and the details of funds allocated and utilized under the scheme since its inception; (d) whether companies are offering additional financial incentives to the interns and if so, the details thereof; and (e) whether Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants are provided fair opportunities under the scheme and if so, the details of applications received and internships offered to SC and ST applicants? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS AND MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS [SHRI HARSH MALHOTRA] (a): The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) was announced in the Budget 2024-25. It aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies in five years. As an initiation to this Scheme, a Pilot Project of the Scheme targeted at providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in one year has been launched on 03.10.2024. Guidelines containing details for Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme - Pilot Project are available at https://pminternship.mca.gov.in.(b): In the round I of the Pilot Project, which commenced from 3rd October, 2024, more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were provided by the 280 partner companies across the country. Against these, approximately 6.21 lakh applications were received from more than 1.81 lakh applicants. In this round, the partner companies made over 82,000 internship offers to over 60,000 candidates, out of which over 28,000 candidates accepted offers to join the internship. In this round, over 8700 candidates joined their internship. In the Round II of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, which commenced on 9th January, 2025, about 327 Partner Companies have posted over 1.18 lakh internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous round) across the country. Against these, approximately 4.55 lakh applications were received from over 2.14 lakh applicants. As on 15.07.2025, partner companies have made over 71000 offers. Currently, rolling out of offers and the process of acceptances/ joining by interns is in progress. State-wise details of youth currently doing internship under the Scheme is enclosed at Annexure I. Company-wise details of youth currently doing internship under the Scheme is enclosed at Annexure II. (c): No such proposal is under consideration. In the Budget Estimate of FY 2024-25, an amount of Rs. 2000 crores was allocated to Ministry of Corporate Affairs, for the FY 2024-25 for PM Internship Scheme. For the Pilot Project of the PM Internship Scheme, targeted at providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the youth, an amount of Rs. 840 crore was approved. Revised Estimate was arrived at Rs. 380 crores in the FY 2024-25. For the FY 2025- 26, an amount of Rs. 10831.07 crore has been allocated. Approximately Rs. 50 crore has been utilized under the Scheme since inception. (d): Under the Scheme, a one-time grant for incidentals of Rs.6,000/- is to be disbursed to the interns by the Government. In addition, monthly assistance is to be paid to the interns, with Rs. 4,500/- per month to be provided by the Government and Rs.500 per month by the Company, from its CSR funds. Expenditure associated with the training of interns under the Scheme would be borne by the company from its CSR funds, as per the extant rules. In case any Company wishes to provide monthly assistance over and above Rs.500, it may do so from its own funds. As per the data available 18 Companies and 47 Companies are offering additional financial incentives under Round I & Round II respectively under the PMIS Pilot Project. (e): As per the Guidelines of the PM Internship Scheme- Pilot Project, a pool of candidates based on the number of applications, is shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the Portal. The shortlisting process is aimed at promotingdiversity and social inclusivity in the internship program through providing for representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes as well as Persons with Disabilities in the shortlist sent to the concerned company for further selection as per their respective processes and criterion.
