PASSENGER OVERCROWDING ON BENGALURU-MYSURU RAIL CORRIDOR
3191. SHRI YADUVEER WADIYAR:
Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware of severe passenger overcrowding on
the Bengaluru - Mysuru rail corridor during weekends, festivals and
peak seasons;
(b) the details of the number of special trains operated on this route during
the year 2025 and the average occupancy levels; and
(c) whether a permanent increase in train frequency or coach capacity is
being considered and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): On Indian Railways, the occupancy pattern of trains varies over
lean and peak periods. During peak rush periods, the occupancy of the
trains especially on popular routes remains full whereas during lean
periods and on less popular routes, there is sub optimal utilization.
Presently, Bengaluru -Mysuru sector is served by 34 pairs of train services
which includes 2 pairs of Vande Bharat services, one pair each of Shatabdi
and Rajya Rani Express and 4 pairs of Passenger services. These are listed
below:

Further, in its constant endeavour to provide additional accommodation to
travelling passengers, Indian Railways (IR), operates Special train services
during festivals, holidays, etc. to cater to the extra needs of passengers
and supplement the accommodation available by regular services.
Furthermore, the load of trains are also augmented, both on a permanent
and temporary basis, to generate additional accommodation for different
segments of passengers. Accordingly, to cater to the needs of passengers
of Begaluru-Mysuru sector, IR operated around 1600 trips of special trains
and also augmented the loads of 24 trains serving the sector during the
year 2025.
