PENDING ROAD PROJECTS IN TAMIL NADU
3773. SHRI P. WILSON:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) the current progress, original cost, revised cost and expected date of completion of the Arakkonam–
Kancheepuram (Package-III) and Kancheepuram–Sriperumbudur (Package-IV) stretches of the
Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, Mamallapuram–Mugaiyur (Package-I) and Mugaiyur–Marakkanam
(Package-II) on NH-332A, Sattanathapuram–Nagapattinam on NH-45A, Walajahpet/Ranipet–TN/AP
Border on NH-40 and Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Elevated Corridor;
(b) the reasons for delay, including land acquisition, environmental/statutory clearances, technical or
financial constraints of concessionaires; and
(c) whether project costs have been revised due to delays and the quantum of escalation and the steps
taken to resolve bottlenecks, fix accountability and ensure time-bound completion?

(a) to (c) The details in respect of projects mentioned in part (a) along with reasons for delay are
annexed. Various factors such as issues related to land acquisition, delays in pre-construction activities,
financial difficulties faced by contractors, force majeure events, and scarcity of construction materials
etc. have resulted in delays and cost overrun in certain projects.
The Government actively monitors National Highway (NH) projects in close coordination with all
stakeholders including project implementing agencies, State Governments, contractors/developers.
Periodic review meetings are held at various levels to resolve the issues and expedite progress. In
addition, many initiatives are being taken to avoid or reduce project delays, including streamlining land
acquisition & environment clearances, online approval of General Arrangement Drawing of Railway
