Parliament Question: Pension to EPFO employees

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4427 TO BE ANSWERED ON 02.04.2026 PENSION TO EPFO EMPLOYEES 4427. DR. JOHN BRITTAS: Will the Minister of Labour and Employment be pleased to state: (a) whether employees and pensioners of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) come under the ambit of the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS); (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) if not, the reasons therefor; (d) whether EPFO employees had earlier been covered under EPS and were subsequently shifted to Government pension scheme and if so, the details thereof; (e) the average monthly pension received by retired EPFO employees during the last one year; (f) the average annual pension paid to EPFO pensioners during that period; and (g) the quantum of pension and other retirement benefits disbursed to EPFO employees during that period? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE) (a) to (d): Employees and pensioners of EPFO are governed by the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, CCS (Implementation of NPS) Rules, 2021 and CCS (Extraordinary Pension) Rules, 2023. (e): The average monthly pension disbursed per retired EPFO employee during the year 2024-25 is Rs. 37,045/-. (f): The average annual pension disbursed per retired EPFO employee during the year 2024-25 is Rs. 4,44,533/-. (g): A sum of Rs. 813.94 Crore has been paid during the year 2024-25 as expenditure incurred for pension/Family Pension/ Gratuity amount for retired EPFO employees or their survivor. ******
