Parliament Question: Performance of UDAN scheme

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 988 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 9th February 2026 PERFORMANCE OF UDAN SCHEME 988. SHRI JAVED ALI KHAN Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether UDAN scheme is being implented under various phases since last five years; (b) if so, the details thereof along with the details of fund allocated, released and utilized for providing subsidy to airliners under UDAN scheme since inception till date, year-wise; (c) the details of airports connected under UDAN scheme, so far, State-wise and yearwise; (d) the number of airports under UDAN scheme which face lack of flights or temporary closure due to low passenger demand, State-wise; and (e) the details of expenses on maintenance and security of these airports? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) and (b): Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme-Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (RCS- UDAN) Scheme, 14 rounds of bidding have been conducted under five versions of the Scheme. The year-wise details of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) disbursed to the airlines since the inception of UDAN scheme is at Annexure-A. (c) and (d): As on 20..01.2026, 93 unserved and underserved airports (including 15 heliports and 02 water aerodromes) have been operationalized across the country. The details are at Annexure-B. Currently, 15 (fifteen) airports are non operational under the UDAN Scheme due to factors such as poor visibility conditions, restriction of operations to daytime at VFR-only airports, shortage of aircraft, leasing issues, temporary discontinuation by airlines, novation of routes and low passenger load factors. (e): There is no provision under the UDAN Scheme for maintenance and security of non- operational airports.
