GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.1474 ANSWERED ON 12.02.2026 PERMISSION FOR REPAIR AND RENOVATION WORK 1474. DR. MEENAKSHI JAIN: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether it is permissible to repair and renovate existing buildings and structures within the prohibited area of 100 meters as per ASI regulations; (b) if so, the details thereof; and (c) whether any permission is required to be obtained from National Monument Authority for such repair and renovation work in prohibited areas? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a)& As per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (b) Act, 1958 it is permissible to undertake repair and renovation work in the prohibited area. Any person desires to carry out any repair or renovation of a building or structure situated in prohibited area can carry out such repair or renovation after obtaining prior permission from Competent Authority. (c) Prior permission from the Competent Authority is required for carrying out repairs and renovations work in the prohibited area. *****
