PERSISTENT POLLUTION IN RIVER YAMUNA

Will the Minister of Jal Shakti be pleased to state:
(a) the stretch-wise Water Quality Index of the river Yamuna during the last five years, including the
current year;
(b) the year-wise levels of Biochemical Oxygen Demand Dissolved Oxygen and faecal coliform at major
monitoring stations;
(c) whether it is a fact that BOD levels remain 8–10 times above prescribed standards and faecal coliform
levels far exceed permissible limits;
(d) whether Government acknowledges that Yamuna water quality has shown limited improvement
despite successive action plans; and
(e) the year-wise details of funds allocated, released and utilised over the last five years for Yamuna
pollution abatement under Namami Gange Programme and other schemes?

(a) to (c) Monitoring on river Yamuna is carried out at 33 locations by SPCBs of Uttarakhand (04
locations), Himachal Pradesh (04 locations), Haryana (06 locations), Delhi (07 locations) and Uttar
Pradesh (12 locations) under National Water Quality Monitoring Programme (NWMP) of CPCB.
Water quality of river Yamuna during last five years (2021-2025) for these 33 locations is enclosed as
Annexure.
(d) Status of improvement in water quality of river Yamuna is given below:

of projects contributing to abatement of pollution of River Yamuna in the Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan,
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi & Haryana. The year wise details of fund released by NMCG are as under;
