In response to Unstarred Question No. 1078, raised by Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, regarding the posting of specialist doctors to Andaman & Nicobar (A&N) Islands, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Smt. Anupriya Patel) stated the following: the Ministry sends requisitions to the UPSC based on vacancies, and the UPSC conducts interviews and recommends suitable candidates. Additionally, the Ministry has acknowledged concerns regarding specialist doctor vacancies in the A&N Islands Administration, and administrative approval has been granted to the UT Administration of A&N Islands for contractual appointments of one year, or until regular recruitments are made, whichever is earlier. The postings of specialist doctors have been made on rotational basis. The question was to be answered on December 5th, 2025.

for a period of two to three years on a rotation basis, in view of the long-pending

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government to fulfil these demands considering the urgent

(c) the timeframe by which specialist doctors are expected to be deputed or posted to the

(a) to (c) Based on the vacancies, requisitions are sent to the UPSC and UPSC conducts
interviews for recruitment of specialist doctors and recommends suitable candidates for
appointment against the vacant posts. Further, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
has taken cognizance of concerns regarding vacancies of specialist doctors under A&N
Islands Administration and administrative approval has been conveyed to the UT
Administration of A&N Islands to make contractual appointments against the vacant posts
for a period of one year or till regular recruitments are made, whichever is earlier. In
addition,postings of Specialist doctorshave also beenmade on rotationalbasis.
