Parliament Question: Potable Water Facilities at Railway Stations in Rajasthan

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 5455 TO BE ANSWERED ON 25.03.2026 POTABLE WATER FACILITIES AT RAILWAY STATIONS IN RAJASTHAN †5455. SHRI MURARI LAL MEENA: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that potable water facilities for passengers are not available at several railway stations in Rajasthan particularly in Dausa and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether regular testing of water quality is conducted at railway stations where drinking water facilities are available; (c) if so, the details of reports of water quality tests conducted in Rajasthan particularly at Dausa station during the last three years, year-wise; (d) whether the Government has received complaints that water available at certain stations is not fit for consumption or water purification plants are non-functional and if so, the action taken in this regard; and (e) whether the Government is going to implement any specific action plan to ensure time- bound arrangements for RO-based safe drinking water, water coolers and regular maintenance at all major and sub-divisional stations including Dausa in Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (e) At Dausa station, located in Rajasthan, facilities like high level platforms, platform shelter, waiting hall, drinking water arrangement, urinal, lavatory, seating arrangement and Foot Over Bridge etc. are available. § Page 1 of 6Dausa station has been identified for development under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Development works at Dausa station have been taken up at good pace. The works of improvement of station building, platform shelter, improvement of waiting hall, toilet, circulating area and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been completed. The work of lift has been taken up. Ministry of Railways is committed to provide safe and potable drinking water facilities free of cost at all stations over Indian Railways including Dausa station, located in Rajasthan, as one of the minimum essential amenities. Further, Indian Railways ensure ample water supply at railway stations by assessing expected consumption, making alternative arrangements for shortfalls and collaboration with municipalities, local water tanker suppliers, and other sources as needed. To ensure the quality of drinking water being made available at the railway stations, instructions exist for periodical checking and required corrective action to be taken. Regular inspection and maintenance of drinking water facilities is carried out and complaints are attended promptly. Indian Railways has a well established mechanism to monitor implementation of projects including their reviews, inspection, check for quality of works and audits. Works are carried out adhering to the standards and specifications laid down in various codes and manuals. Inspections/audits/checks are carried out from time to time by various agencies/officials/multi-disciplinary teams as per laid down instructions and actions for correction including damages are taken immediately. This is a continuous and ongoing process. Further, development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations including provision of drinking water arrangement at stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. Development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of a station is carried out based on category of station/condition/traffic handled etc. Page 2 of 6Water coolers at railway stations are provided as per extant policy guidelines. At present, 06 water coolers are available at Dausa station. Regular maintenance of water coolers at all major and sub-divisional stations is being done in Rajasthan. ‘RailMadad’ is Indian Railways grievance redressal mechanism that provides passengers an integrated platform for grievances, assistance and inquiry. In RailMadad, passengers can seek redressal through multiple channels such as Helpline number-139, RailMadad Web App and SMS. RailMadad also allows passengers to share feedback on the resolution of their grievances. Grievances related to water availability in train coaches and at stations are received in RailMadad. However, no separate data regarding water is not fit for consumption/water purification plants are non functional at stations is maintained in RailMadad. Apart from that, representations, both formal and informal for Railway projects / works across the country are received on the basis of demands raised by State Governments, Members of Parliament, Ministries of Central Government, elected representatives, Railways' own requirements, organizations / rail users etc., at various levels including Railway Board, Zonal Railways, Division Office etc. Receipt of such proposals / requests / suggestions / representations is a continuous and dynamic process and these are examined and action as found feasible and justified is taken from time to time. Ministry of Railways has launched Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for redevelopment of stations with a long-term approach. The scheme involves preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve the stations. The master planning includes:  Improvement of access to station and circulating areas  Integration of station with both sides of city  Improvement of station building  Improvement of waiting halls, toilets, sitting arrangement, water booths Page 3 of 6 Provision of wider foot over bridge/air concourse commensurate with passenger traffic  Provision of lift/escalators/ramp  Improvement /Provision of platform surface and cover over platforms  Provision of kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’  Parking areas, Multimodal integration  Amenities for Divyangjans  Better passenger information systems  Provision of executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station. The scheme also envisages sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks etc. as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term. So far, 1,338 stations have been identified for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Out of these, 85 stations including Dausa station are located in Rajasthan. The works of lift and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up.  Gotan station: The works of improvement of station building, porch, platform shelter, waiting room, toilet, circulating area, parking, entry/exit gate, coach indication board and signages have been completed. The works of lift and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up. Page 5 of 6 Lalgarh station: The works of improvement of station building, concourse, platform shelter, waiting room, toilet, circulating area, parking, coach indication board and signages have been completed. The works of 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up.  Sujangarh station: The works of new station building, porch, improvement of existing station building, raising of platform no. 1, platform shelter, improvement of waiting room, retiring room, toilet, parking, coach indication board and entry/exit gate have been completed. The works of improvement of station building, circulating area, signages and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up.  Jalor station: The works of station building, porch, toilet, entry/exit gate and boundary wall have been completed. The works of circulating area and Foot Over Bridge have been taken up. Development / Upgradation / Modernization of stations including Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is generally funded under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’. The details of allocation and expenditure under Plan Head-53 are maintained Zonal Railway-wise and not work-wise or station-wise or state-wise. Rajasthan is covered under the jurisdiction of five railway zones, namely, Northern Railway, North Central Railway, North Western Railway, Western Railway and West Central Railway. For these zones, an allocation (Revised Estimate) of ₹ 4,797 crore has been made for the financial year 2025-26, out of which an expenditure of ₹ 4,761 crore (up to February, 2026) has been incurred so far. ***** Page 6 of 6
