GENIBEN NAGAJI THAKOR: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has undertaken any initiatives to preserve and promote the cultural and historical heritage of Gujarat; (b) if so, the details of the monuments, heritage sites and cultural festivals supported by the Ministry in Gujarat during the last three years and the current year; (c) whether the Government is providing any financial or technical support for the restoration of historical sites like the Sun Temple (Modhera), Rani ki Vav (Patan), and Champaner - Pavagadh and if so, the details thereof; and (d) the details and status of the proposals for setting up new museums or cultural centers in Gujarat? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) There are 205 Centrally Protected Monuments under the care and & maintenance of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the state of (b) Gujarat (List attached as Annexure I). ASI has also established one (01) Archaeological Site Museum at Dholavira, located in District Kutch, Gujarat to showcase the rich cultural and historical heritage. Ministry of Culture has set up West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC) at Udaipur to preserve and promote the folk culture of Gujarat. WZCC organizes various cultural activities and programmes in the State of Gujarat. The cultural programmes organized by WZCC, Udaipur in State of Gujarat are Vasantotsav, National Unity Day, Daang Darbar, Nupur Dance Festival & Tribal Festival. The Ministry of Culture has also provided financial assistance to Archaeological Experiential Museum at Vadnagar in the last three years.(c) ASI takes up conservation and preservation work of historical sites like the Sun Temple (Modhera), Rani ki Vav (Patan), and Champaner-Pavagadh as per need and availability of resources. The details of the allocation and expenditure incurred in the last three years for conservation and preservation of these monuments are given in Annexure –II.
