Productivity has been rising steadily from 1247 kg/ha in 2020-21 to 1412 kg/ha in 2024-25 in oilseed. (d): The National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) was approved on 3rd October, 2024 to boost domestic oilseed production and to strive towards self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in edible oils. The National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) being implemented since 2021, aims to enhance the availability of edible oils in the country by expanding oil palm area, increasing Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production and reducing the import dependence on edible oils. So far, 13.06 lakh hectares have been covered under free seed distribution in the Value Chain Clusters during 2025–26, exceeding the annual target of 10.00 lakh hectares. In addition, 60 Seed Hubs, 50 temperature-controlled seed storage units and 348 oil extraction units have been sanctioned during 2025–26. Further, during 2025–26, demonstrations covering 5.38 lakh hectares under Block Demonstrations, 0.22 lakh hectares under Frontline Demonstrations, and 0.43 lakh hectares under Cluster Frontline Demonstrations have been conducted to promote awareness among farmers regarding the latest high-yielding varieties and advanced technologies in oilseed cultivation. Since the launch of NMEO-OP, a total of 2.69 lakh hectares has been brought under oil palm cultivation, contributing to a cumulative area of 6.36 lakh hectares (as on 16.03.2026). Support also provided for drip irrigation facility under NMEO-OP. Minimum Support Price (MSP) for oilseeds is declared every year at least 1.5 times the cost of production to ensure remunerative returns to farmers. In addition, procurement under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) also covers oilseeds and helps farmers get better prices and income support. Accordingly, a total of 28.96 LMT of oilseeds (Groundnut: 21.05 LMT, Mustard: 0.24 LMT, Soybean: 7.83 LMT, and Sunflower seed: 0.08 LMT) have been procured in eight States, namely Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, during 2025–26 (as on 12.03.2026) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). ******
