SHRI ARVIND DHARMAPURI: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ(cid:874)ष एवं (cid:873)कसान क(cid:227)याण म(cid:287)ं ी be pleased to state: (a) the details of area, production and productivity of turmeric during the last five years, State-wise particularly, district-wise details for Telangana including Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal districts; (b) whether the Government has analysed the reasons for increase or decline in turmeric production in each State during the said period and if so, the details thereof, including factors such as rainfall, acreage shift, input cost, pest/disease incidence, market prices and post-harvest infrastructure; (c) the number of turmeric Farmer Producer Organisations, clusters, processing units, drying yards, storage facilities and primary processing centres, supported under Central schemes in Telangana; (d) whether the Government has assessed gaps in price realization, grading, processing, export quality and market linkage for turmeric farmers; and (e) the steps taken to enhance farmer income through value addition, scientific cultivation, post-harvest support and market access for turmeric growers, particularly in Telangana? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ(cid:874)ष एवं (cid:873)कसान क(cid:227)याण रा(cid:207)य मं(cid:287)ी (SHRI RAM NATH THAKUR) (a): The State-wise details of area, production and productivity/yield of turmeric during the last five years are given at Annexure-I and the district-wise details for Telangana State, including Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal districts, are given at Annexure-II.(b): The area and production of turmeric in the country has shown an increasing trend during the recent years. Overall, favourable climatic conditions, coupled with lower incidence of pests and diseases, supported increase in production. In addition, the prevailing high market prices of turmeric encouraged farmers to bring more area under cultivation, leading to a corresponding increase in turmeric production. Financial assistance is extended for setting up Primary processing units, turmeric boilers, spices polishers, etc. through the Sustainability in Spice Sector through Progressive Innovative and Collaborative Interventions for Export Development (SPICED) Scheme. (e): The development of turmeric is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India through their flagship programmes like the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Natural Resource Management (NRM), Soil Health Card, e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) etc. Under MIDH, several production-oriented programmes are being implemented by the Government of India through State Horticulture Missions including Telangana, set up under the State Governments. MIDH has special components for creation of Marketing Infrastructure and Mechanization, which also extends for turmeric.The Government of India established the National Turmeric Board in 2023 to promote turmeric production, development and value addition; enhance domestic and international consumption; facilitate the creation and improvement of infrastructure and logistics for turmeric exports; and support the overall growth of the turmeric sector. ICAR-IISR and ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices (AICRPS), based on the Central Variety Release Committee (CVRC) notifications, have developed the following turmeric varieties suitable for Telangana- IISR Pragati, Lam Swarna (LTS-2), IISR Surya, Roma, Suroma, Suguna, Sudarshana, Suvarna, Rashmi, Duggirala Red. These varieties have higher yield potential than the traditional varieties and can enhance the productivity of turmeric in Telangana.
