Parliament Question: Production of Fake Medicine in Puducherry

GOVERNMENTOFINDIA MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE DEPARTMENTOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE LOK SABHA UNSTARREDQUESTION NO. 3455 TOBE ANSWERED ON13TH MARCH, 2026 PRODUCTION OFFAKEMEDICINE IN PUDUCHERRY 3455.SHRIVE VAITHILINGAM: Will the Ministerof HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFAREbe pleasedtostate: (a) whether the Government is aware that there was large-scale production of fake medicines in the name of reputed brands in Puducherry and that these were supplied to various States andif so, the detailsthereof; (b) the actiontakenbythe Government against those involvedinthe scam; and (c) whether the CBI hasinitiated anyinvestigation onthe said case, if so, the current status of enquiryconductedbythe CBI? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. ANUPRIYAPATEL) (a)to(c): As per the information provided by State Drugs Control Department, Puducherry, pursuant tocredible inputsand routine surveillance regarding illegaldrug related activities, inspections and searches were conducted at various licensed and unlicensed premises during which several units in Puducherry were found to be operating in violation of Section18(c) of the Drugs andCosmetics Act, 1940andthe Rulesframedthereunder relating tounauthorizedmanufacture, storage andsale of pharmaceuticalproducts. As informed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), three cases have been registered regarding production of fake medicine in Puducherry, out of which one case has beendisposed through LokAdalat. *******
