(a) the details of the increase in production of fruits across the country during the last three years, year-
wise;
(b) whether the production of fruits has been higher than the targets fixed;
(c) if so, the details thereof, year-wise;
(d) the names of the fruits about which increase and decrease in production have been assessed; and
(e) whether Uttar Pradesh State has achieved the first rank among the States in the production of fruits, if
so, the details thereof?

(a): The fruits production in the country since 2021-22 is as under:

It is seen that the production of fruits has increased by 70 lakh tonnes over the period 2021-22 to
2024-25 (Second Advance Estimates).
(b) & (c): The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme,
namely, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) w.e.f. 2014-15 for holistic growth of
Horticulture Sector covering fruits, vegetables, root & tuber crops, mushroom, spices, flowers, aromatic
plants, coconut, cashew and cocoa. Production of fruits and vegetables etc. are supported under the area
expansion component of the Scheme. MIDH scheme is being implemented through State Horticulture
Missions (SHM) in accordance to the Annual Action Plan submitted by the States. Separate targets for the
production of fruits are not assigned to the States in the country.
(d): Over the period 2021-22 to 2024-25 (Second Advance Estimates), an increase in production has
been observed in several fruits such as Banana, Mango, Watermelon, Muskmelon, Aonla/ Gooseberry,
Grapes, Sweet Orange, Custard Apple, Papaya and Apple. A decline in production is observed in fruits like
Pomegranate, Litchi, Pineapple, Guava, Sapota, etc. However, Pomegranate, Litchi and Guava have seen
an increase in their production in 2024-25 (Second Advance Estimates) over the last year (2023-24).
(e): In 2024-25 (Second Advance Estimates), Uttar Pradesh is the third largest producer of fruits in country
after Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The total production of fruits in Uttar Pradesh is estimated to be
145.96 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 (Second Advance Estimates).
