SHRI BASTIPATI NAGARAJU: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण मं(cid:361)ी be pleased to state: (a) the details on the total production of millets across the country during the last five years, state-wise, district-wise and by the type of millet; (b) the details the amount of millets (in metric tonnes and dollars) exported abroad during the last five years, country-wise; (c) whether the Government plans to initiate any incentives for farmers to increase the growth of millets, if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons therefor; (d) whether the Government has invested in Research and Development (R&D) for high- yielding seeds for millets if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and (e) whether the Government has allocated funds for the Research and Development for the same, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण रा(cid:475) मं(cid:361)ी (SHRI RAMNATH THAKUR) (a): The country has achieved a total millet production of 180.15 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 which is higher by 4.43 lakh tonnes from the previous year. The details on the state-wise production, by the types of millets across the country during the last five years are given at Annexure I. Further, the district-wise production details, by the types of millets is available at UPAg Portal (https://upag.gov.in). (b): The details of the amount of millets (in metric tonnes and dollars) exported abroad during the last five years, country-wise are given at Annexure II.(c) to (e): In order to increase the growth of millets (Shree Anna), the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) is implementing a Sub-Mission on Nutri-Cereals (Millets) under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) in 28 States & 2 Union Territories viz. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. In addition, the Government of India also provides flexibility to the states for state specific needs/priorities under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The states can promote Millets (Shree Anna) under RKVY with the approval of State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) headed by Chief Secretary of the State. Under NFSM-Nutri Cereals, assistance is given to farmers, through State/ Union Territories, for interventions like cluster demonstrations on improved package of practices, production & distribution of seeds of High Yielding Varieties (HYVs)/hybrids, improved farm machineries/resource conservation machineries/tools, efficient water application tools, plant protection measures, nutrient management/soil ameliorants, cropping system based trainings to the farmers etc. The ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad has been entrusted with the nodal responsibility of millets R&D in the entire county. Besides, in view of International Year of Millets 2023, the ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad has been recently recognized as “Global Centre of Excellence on Millets” by the Government of India. As far as Research & Development (R&D) for high yielding seeds of millets is concerned, the Crop Science Division through ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad has intensified the millet popularization activities such as organizing and conducting various training programs to small and marginal farmers on millet cultivation technologies and there by promoting millet production by giving valuable inputs on importance of millets, value added technologies of millets, business opportunities with millets and health benefits of millets. The promotion of Millets based FPOs in major millets growing states have been undertaken to increase area under millets and increase millets- based farmers’ income. The ICAR-IIMR-Hyderabad is extending support as a knowledge partner with various State Millet Missions / Agriculture departments (viz. Jharkhand, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, etc.) intended to increase public awareness on the health benefits of millets and their suitability for cultivation under tough conditions marked by climate change. During 2024-25, a total of 276 Millets varieties have been released by Central Variety Release Committee (CVRC) comprising 84 of Sorghum, 80 of Pearl Millet, 20 of Little Millet, 7 of Proso Millet, 13 of Kodo Millet, 49 of Finger Millet, 14 of Foxtail Millet, 8 of Barnyard millet and 1 of Brown top Millet for cultivation in different agro-ecologies of the country.ANNEXURE I Annexure referred to in
