SEEMA DWIVEDI: SHRI NARESH BANSAL: Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state: (a) the current status of functional household tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission along with the number and percentage of rural households covered; (b) the States and Union Territories which have achieved 100 per cent 'Har Ghar Jal' (tap water in every home) status and the timelines for achieving universal coverage in the remaining States; (c) the extent to which schools and Anganwadi Centres across the country have been covered with tap connections; and (d) the coverage of tap water connections in school and Anganwadi Centres across the country especially in the States of Maharastra and Uttar Pardesh? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI V. SOMANNA) (a) Significant progress has been made in the country since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, towards enhancing access to tap water to rural households. At the start of Jal Jeevan Mission in August 2019, only 3.23 Crore (16.72%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections. So far, as reported by State, more than 12.55 crore additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections under JJM. Thus, as on 29.01.2026, out of 19.36 Crore rural households in the country, more than 15.79 Crore (81.58%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. Page 1 of 2(b) As reported by the States/UTs on JJM-IMIS, 8 states and 3 UTs (viz. Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Telangana, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh & Gujarat, A & N Islands, D&NH and D&D and Puducherry) have achieved Har Ghar Jal status. The remaining state will saturate all households as per their saturation plan. (c) to (d) As reported by the states/UTs on JJM-IMIS, as on 27.01.2026, 89.62% schools and 85.60% anganwadi centres in the country have tap water supply connection.
