Will the Ministerof HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFAREbe pleased tostate:
(a) whether the Government is working towards setting up medical colleges in every district across the
country, State/UT-wise;
(b) if so, the detailsof the approved, underconstruction andfunctionalmedicalcolleges;
(c) the details of the new medical colleges are being established in accordance with the announcement
made inthe Union Budget of the year2024-25 across Bihar;
(d) the detailsof the current status of eachof the said medicalcolleges,location-wise;
(e)the totalamount of fundsutilised/expanses so far onallthe said medicalcolleges, locationwise; and
(f) whether any specific target timeline has been fixed for the completion of the establishment or
construction projectsof all the said medicalcollegesandif so, the details thereof?
ANSWER

(SMT.ANUPRIYAPATEL)
(a) to(f): The Ministry of Health & Family Welfareadministers a CentrallySponsored Scheme (CSS)for
‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ with preference
to underserved areas and aspirational districts, where there is no existing Government or private medical
college. The fund sharing mechanism between the Centre and State Governments is in the ratio of 90:10
for North Eastern and Special Category States, and 60:40 for others. Under the Scheme, a total of 157
medical colleges have beenapproved across the country in three phases, including 08 medicalcolleges in
the State of Bihar at Purnia, Saran (Chhapra), Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Jhanjharpur, Siwan, Buxar, and
Jamui with a total approved cost of Rs. 1,628 crore. Entire Central Share of Rs. 1,090.20 crore has been
released to the State Government. The timeline for implementation of the Scheme is up to 2027-28.
Further, as per guidelines of the Scheme, the planning, execution and commissioning of the medical
collegesapprovedunderthe scheme istobe done by the StateGovernment.
