PROJECTS UNDER PRASAD SCHEME

Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state:
(a) the funds allocated and released to States and Union Territories under PRASAD
scheme during the last three years, year-wise and State-wise;
(b) the number of project proposals received from each State Government under the
scheme during the same period and the number of proposals approved, pending or
rejected, State-wise;
(c) the number of proposals submitted by Government of Kerala under the scheme during
the last three years and their present status; and
(d) the reasons for delay, if any, in appraisal or approval of project proposals and the steps
taken to streamline the approval process?

PRASAD SCHEME RAISED BY SHRI A. A. RAHIM
(a): The Ministry of Tourism under the “Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage
Augmentation Drive” (PRASHAD) provides financial assistance to the State Governments and
Union Territory Administrations for development of tourism infrastructure at identified
religious and heritage sites across the country. Till date the Ministry has sanctioned 54 projects
under the PRASHAD Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs. 1726.74 Crores. The details of the
projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism under PRASHAD Scheme is given in the
Annexure.
(b) to (d): Receiving proposals from the State Governments/UT Administrations for
financial assistance for tourism projects is a continuous process. The proposals received are
examined with reference to the prescribed guidelines and financial assistance is extended for
such projects subject to fulfilment of the stipulated conditions and availability of funds.
No proposal for development of pilgrimage/ heritage site in Kerala is presently under
the consideration of the Ministry of Tourism under the PRASHAD Scheme. However, the
Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned a project named “Development at Guruvayur Temple” at a
cost of Rs.45.19 crore under the PRASHAD Scheme in the year 2016-17 and the said project is
complete.
