THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT)
(a) to (d): Development and promotion of tourism is primarily done by
the concerned State Government (SG)/Union Territory Administration
(UTA). However, the Ministry of Tourism complements these efforts
through its ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)’, ‘Challenge Based Destination
Development (CBDD), a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan’ and
‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive
(PRASHAD)’ schemes by extending financial support to the State
Governments (SG)/UT Administrations (UTAs) on receipt of the project
proposals, its alignment with the guidelines and other instructions
issued by the Government, inter-se priority, availability of funds etc. In
addition, Government of India has also sanctioned projects for tourism
development under Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment(SASCI) scheme in the country including Karnataka. The details of the
projects sanctioned under SD2.0, PRASHAD and SASCI schemes and
which are under implementation in the state of Karnataka is annexed.
In addition, Ministry of Tourism has identified ‘Bidar’ and ‘Udupi’ as
destinations in Karnataka under CBDD. However, no project at these
destinations has been sanctioned and the SG of Karnataka has been
advised to obtain necessary clearances.
In order to expedite implementation of the projects, Ministry of
Tourism periodically reviews the progress of the projects through review
meetings with the State Governments at different levels. There is no
additional project of Karnataka presently enlisted for consideration by
the Ministry of Tourism under above mentioned schemes.
