PROMOTION AND PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE
5046. SMT. MALVIKA DEVI:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the schemes currently being implemented by the Government for
preservation and promotion of India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage,
particularly in aspirational and backward districts, such as Kalahandi and Nuapada in
Odisha;
(b) the details of total funds allocated and utilised under these schemes during the last three
financial years, State/UT and year-wise, especially in Odisha; and
(c) whether the Government proposes to set up any cultural resource centres or museums in
Odisha, especially in the said district?

(a) There are 82 nos. of centrally protected monuments under the jurisdiction of
& Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the State of Odisha including 01 monument
(b) namely Asurgarh Fort in the District of Kalahandi. ASI takes up conservation and
preservation works of these monuments/sites as per the need and availability of resources
subject to the National Policy for Conservation and it is a continuous process. The details
of expenditure incurred for conservation and maintenance of Asurgarh Fort during the
last three years including current year are given as under:-

The details of total funds allocated and utilised by ASI for conservation and
maintenance during the last three years, State/UT and year-wise, including State of
Odisha are given at Annexure-I.
The Government of India has set up Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) at Kolkata to
promote various forms of folk art of its member States which includes the State of
Odisha. EZCC organizes various cultural activities in its member States for which annual
grant-in-aid is provided to them. The grant-in-aid released to EZCC, Kolkata during the

EZCC organizes number of programmes like Folk Fair, National Tribal/ Folk Dance &
Music Festival, Chilika Shelduck Folk Carnival, All India Multilingual Drama & Dance
Festival etc. in Odisha. Workshops viz. Filigree, Patachitra, Mayurbhanj Chhau and
Saura Painting are also conducted by EZCC to promote dying & vanishing folk art
forms.
(c) At present, there is no such proposal under consideration.Annexure-I
