GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2497 TO BE ANSWERED ON 03.08.2026 PROMOTION OF KAKATIYA HERITAGE IN WARANGAL 2497. DR. KADIYAM KAVYA: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has formulated any plan or approved any proposal for the conservation, promotion and development of the Kakatiya heritage of Warangal, including its monuments, traditional arts, handloom and handicraft traditions, cultural festivals and cultural tourism under various Central schemes during the last three years; and (b) the details of projects sanctioned, financial assistance sanctioned and released, works undertaken and completed and the future initiatives proposed for the promotion of Kakatiya heritage in Warangal? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) There are 9 Protected Monuments and sites under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the State of Telangana including Kakatiya heritage monuments in Warangal district. ASI takes up conservation and maintenance of all these monuments in a regular way as per the need and availability of resources. Also, The Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple, located at Palampet, Mulugu district, Telangana, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 25 July 2021 during the 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee. The Government of India has set up South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) at Nagpur to preserve and promote various forms of folk art and culture of their member States. Telangana is the member State of SCZCC and it organizes various cultural activities and programmes in its member States including the State of Telangana on regular basis for which annual grant-in-aid is provided to them. The details of cultural activities and programmes organized by SCZCC in the State of Telangana during the last three years are at Annexure I. Details of schemes for the Kakatiya heritage monuments of Warangal are given as below: (i) Under the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) Scheme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs: Warangal City, District: Warangal was promoted as a HERITAGE CITY, through which conservation and development works are carried out at two centrally protected monuments in Warangal, viz., Thousand Pillar Temple and Warangal Fort through Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) and closely monitored by ASI. (ii) PRASHAD Scheme: Under this scheme Government of India had sanctioned Rs.6199.65 Lakhs for Development of Pilgrimage and Heritage Tourism Infrastructure at Rudreshwar (Ramappa) Temple, Mulugu, Telangana. (iii) The ASI has recently opened two souvenir shops at Warangal i.e. Ramappa and Swayambhu Temple Complex for the visitor.(b) Details of Conservation works undertaken by ASI in Telangana including Warangal in the last three years are given at Annexure-II. Dept. of Heritage, Govt. of Telangana has prepared DPRs and submitted it to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, New Delhi, through the YAT & C Department, Government of Telangana, for sanction of funds. Further, an MoU has been signed between ASI and Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) for development of Warangal Fort, defenses and gateways.
