Promotion of Sports Activities in Rajasthan

Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to promote sports activities
in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the
Government in this regard;
(c) the annual budgetary allocation made for promoting sports
activities in various States/UTs;
(d) whether there is any new scheme for the said purpose in the
country, especially in Rajasthan; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER

(a) to (b): Sports being a State subject, the responsibility of
development and promotion of sports, rests primarily with the
State/Union Territory governments, and the Central government only
supplements their efforts. However, the Government is running
various sports promotional schemes across the country, including
Rajasthan. These schemes include: (i) Khelo India – National
Programme for Development of Sports; (ii) Assistance to National
Sports Federations (NSFs); (iii) Cash Incentives to Medal Winners in
International Sports Events and their coaches; (iv) National Sports
Awards; (v) Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons; (vi) Pandit
Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons;
(vii) National Sports Development Fund; (viii) Running Sports
Training centres through Sports Authority of India (SAI); and (ix)
National Centre for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR). Thedetails of these schemes are available in the public domain on the

(c): Funds are allocated by this Ministry scheme-wise, not state-
wise. The budget allocated to Department of Sports for the
Financial Year 2025-26 is Rs. 2520.53 crore.
(d) to (e): There is no such proposal at present. However, there are
total 60 Khelo India Centres (KICs) and 1 Khelo India Centre of
Excellence (KISCE) in the state of Rajasthan. Further, under the
component ‘Creation and Up-gradation of Sports Infrastructure’ of
the Khelo India Scheme, 328 sports infrastructure projects
(including 48 projects at cost of Rs. 125.09 Crore in the State of
Rajasthan) have been sanctioned. The details of these projects are
