PROMOTION OF TOURISM IN TELANGANA

Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state:
(a) the status of the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation
Drive (PRASAD) and the manner in which it is contributing to the
development of tourist destinations, including temples, across the
country;
(b) the details of the funds allocated and utilized under the said Scheme
and other tourism development initiatives, State/UT-wise;
(c) the details of the specific tourism circuits being developed in
Telangana along with the key attractions and infrastructure being
created;
(d) the manner in which the Government plans to promote tourism in
Telangana and the expected outcomes of these initiatives; and
(e) whether the Government has any plans to integrate other tourist
destinations with the PRASAD Scheme and if so, the details thereof
along with the criteria for selection?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT)
(a) and (b): The Ministry of Tourism under the “Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and
Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive” (PRASHAD) Scheme provides
financial assistance to the State Governments and Union Territory
Administrations for development of tourism infrastructure at identified
religious and heritage sites across the country.
Since the launch of the PRASHAD Scheme launch in January 2015,
the Ministry has sanctioned 54 projects in 28 States/UTs at a total cost of
Rs.1726.74 Crore.In addition, the Ministry of Tourism under the Swadesh Darshan
Scheme, has sanctioned a total number of 76 projects under different
thematic circuits in the country for a total sanctioned cost of Rs.5290.33
Crore.
The Swadesh Darshan scheme has been revamped as ‘Swadesh
Darshan 2.0’ (SD 2.0) with the objective to develop sustainable and
responsible tourism destinations. Till date, 53 projects have been
sanctioned by the Ministry under SD 2.0 at a total sanctioned cost of
Rs.2,208.27 Crore.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism has issued guidelines for
‘Challenge Based Destination Development’, a sub-scheme under Swadesh
Darshan 2.0. Under this sub-scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has
sanctioned 36 projects at a total cost of Rs.648.11 Crore.
The Government of India under the guidelines for Special Assistance
to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) for
Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale has approved 40
projects amounting to Rs.3295.76 Crore.
The details of projects under the aforementioned schemes, are given in the
Annexure-I.
(c) and (d): The Ministry of Tourism under the PRASHAD Scheme has
sanctioned four projects at a total cost of Rs.146.5 Crore in Telangana to
provide basic amenities to the pilgrims and enhance spiritual experience.
Further, under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the Ministry of Tourism
has sanctioned three projects at a total cost of Rs.268.39 Crore under
different thematic circuits such as Eco Circuit, Tribal Circuit and Heritage
Circuit in Telangana.
Under the revamped scheme of SD 2.0, the Ministry of Tourism has
sanctioned two projects in Telangana at a total cost of Rs.94.83 Crore.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism has issued guidelines for
‘Challenge Based Destination Development’, a sub-scheme under Swadesh
Darshan 2.0. Under this sub-scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has
sanctioned two projects in Telangana at a total cost of Rs.34.83 Crore.
The Government of India under the guidelines for Special Assistance
to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) forDevelopment of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale has approved two
projects in Telangana at a total cost of Rs.141.84 Crore.
The details of the projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism
under the aforementioned schemes in Telangana, are given in the
Annexure-II.
The Ministry of Tourism also promotes various tourism destinations
and products of the country including Telangana through promotional
activities such as events, website, social media promotions, fairs and
festivals, etc.
(e): Receiving proposals from the State Governments/UT Administrations
for financial assistance for tourism projects under the PRASHAD Scheme is
a continuous process. The proposals received are examined with reference
to the prescribed guidelines. Further, the selection of pilgrimage
destinations / heritage sites under PRASHAD Scheme is based on various
parameters, which, inter-alia, includes footfall, cultural, historical and
heritage significance of the locations and other factors. This process is
undertaken in consultation with State Governments (SGs)/UT
Administrations (UTs)
