GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 1001 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 9th February 2026 PROPOSAL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AN AIRPORT AT HOSUR, TAMIL NADU 1001. DR. KANIMOZHI NVN SOMU Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) whether a proposal for development of an airport at Hosur, in the State of Tamil Nadu, was submitted to the Ministry; (b) if so, the reasons for not approving or rejecting the proposal, including technical, airspace, safety, regulatory and defence-related considerations, if any; and (c) whether any alternative or revised proposal for airport development at Hosur is under examination? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a) & (b): As per Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, TamilNadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO), a Government of Tamil Nadu Enterprise submitted a proposal in November, 2025 seeking Site Clearance for development of Greenfield Airport at Hosur. The proposal was circulated to Airports Authority of India (AAI), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) for comments/observations. In order to prioritize the defence projects of national importance, being carried out by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Airport and to enable operational preparedness of defence forces, the proposal has not been recommended.
