Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:
(a) whether the Government has received any proposal/representations for the establishment
of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Silchar in the State of Assam to
cater to the healthcare needs of the people of Barak Valley as well as the neighbouring
Statesof Mizoram, Meghalaya andTripura,if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has conducted/proposes to conduct any feasibility study, site
assessment or requirementanalysis regarding the setting upof anAIIMS inSilchar,
(c) if so, the detailsthereof alongwiththe current status of the proposal;
(d) whether the Government proposes to take anysteps for earlysanction, landidentification,
budget allocation and commencement of the AIIMS project in Silchar, in view of the
long-pending public demand and the strategic importance of accessible tertiary
healthcareinthe region; and

(a) to (e) Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), till date
establishment of 22 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been approved in
various States/UTs in the country including one AIIMS at Guwahati in Assam, which is
functional. Further, under another component of PMSSY, for expansion and strengthening of
tertiary healthcare facilities in Assam, upgradation of Guwahati Medical College, Guwahati
and Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh have been undertaken by way of setting up of Super-
Speciality block on Centre-State sharing basis. Under PMSSY, there is no proposal to
establish a newAIIMS at Silchar, Assam.
