RECOGNITION OF MANIPURI (MEITEILON) AS A CLASSICAL LANGUAGE
152. DR. ANGOMCHA BIMOL AKOIJAM:
Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the steps taken/being taken or proposed by the Government to confer
Classical Language status on Manipuri (Meiteilon), which belongs to the Tibeto-Burmese
linguistic family of the Indo-Mongoloid group and is regarded as one of the most ancient
and advanced languages of India, which have also been noted by eminent linguist and
Constituent Assembly member, Dr. Suniti Kumar Chatterjee; and
(b) if not, the reasons therefor?
