REDEVELOPMENT OF DILAPIDATED QUARTERS
†6158. SHRI RAMBHUAL NISHAD:
Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that around 865 slum dweller families
have been living on Western Railway land at Plot No. 419, Jaiprakash
Road, Khar (East), Mumbai, for the last 70- 80 years having valid
documents for redevelopment under the Maharashtra Slum
Redevelopment Authority (SRA) Scheme and 12 dilapidated railway
employee quarters are also located there;
(b) whether the Government proposes to enter into a Joint Development
Agreement (JDA) with any reputed promoter for the redevelopment of
these quarters and slum units under the SRA Scheme to ensure no
financial burden on the Railways.
(c) if so, the time by which the terms and conditions of such JDA are likely
to be finalised; and
(d) if not, the manner in which the Government proposes to redevelop these
dilapidated quarters?

(a) to (d): There is a slum dwelling in Khar (East) area near Khar Railway
Colony of Western Railway in Mumbai. Rehabilitation and Resettlement of
unauthorized dwellers is a State subject and action is taken by the
concerned State Government as per their policies. Keeping in view the
condition of the railway quarters in this colony, it is planned to redevelop

§the colony. The work of redevelopment of the colony has been entrusted to
Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). Part of the colony land will be
utilized for construction of multistorey quarters and balance land will be
utilized for commercial development to generate non-fare revenue.
