Parliament Question: Release of Cauvery Water

Shri RAJA A: Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state: (a) the quantity of water released by Karnataka to Tamil Nadu during the last three years and the current year, month-wise; (b) whether there has been any shortfall in such release as compared to the orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and if so, the details thereof; and (c) the measures taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to ensure release of the full monthly quota of water as recommended by the Authority? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI RAJ BHUSHAN CHOUDHARY) (a) & (b) The actual quantity of water released by Karnataka to Tamil Nadu during the last three water years and the current water year, month-wise and the stipulated flows to be ensured at the inter-state contact point i.e. Biligundulu, in a normal year, as per the Final Award of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT), as modified by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, is annexed at Annexure. (c) The hydro-meteorological conditions in the Cauvery basin viz., the rainfall situation so far and the forecast/outlook for the next fortnight, live storage position, inflow/outflow from the 08 designated reservoirs and the actual realization of flows at Biligundulu are deliberated in detail in the meetings of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) and Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) comprising members from Basin States on regular basis. Keeping in view the above, necessary direction for Karnataka to ensure the realization of the required flows at Biligundulu during the next fortnight, as per the final award of the CWDT, as modified by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, is taken and duly recorded in the proceedings of the respective meeting.
