(a) the details of the number of centrally protected monuments under Archaeological
Survey of India (ASI) that are currently awaiting restoration, category, State and
year-wise along with their waiting time;
(b) the details of the monuments classified as “endangered” or “in need of immediate
intervention” by ASI, category, State and year-wise during the last five years;
(c) the details of the steps taken/being taken by the Government to restore and
conserve the said monuments that are currently in a dilapidated or endangered
conditions;
(d) the details of the steps taken/being taken by the Government to enhance financial
and technical capacity of ASI and other conservation bodies to expedite the
restoration of the protected monuments; and
(e) whether the Government is considering to launch a National Mission to fast-track
restoration of neglected and lesser-known monuments?

(a) There are 3685 centrally protected monuments/sites under the care and
to maintenance of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the country. Conservation of
(c) these monuments/sites is a regular process and is taken up as per the requirement
and availability of resources subject to the terms of National Policy for
Conservation, 2014. All these monuments/sites are in a good state of preservation.
(d) ASI provides sufficient financial and technical support for conservation, preservation
and maintenance of all centrally protected monuments/sites. Whenever required,
opinion of institutions such as IIT, CBRI, etc. is also taken for structural
assessment. Details of the funds allocated and expenditure incurred on
conservation, preservation and development of these monuments/sites in the last
five years are given at Annexure-I.
