GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3144 TO BE ANSWERED ON 19.03.2026 REVISION IN ESIC WAGE CEILING 3144. SHRI CHANDRAKANT DAMODAR HANDORE: Will the Minister of Labour and Employment be pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that the current wage ceiling (upper salary limit) of ₹21,000, for availing the ESIC medical facility has been revised by Government and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether Government proposes to extend the benefit of this facility to workers such as Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), Anganawadi, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGP), Auto Rickshaw, Taxi, Tailors, etc.; and (c) if so, the timeline by which it would be effected? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE) (a): The revision of wage ceiling is undertaken periodically from time to time. The last revision in the wage ceiling for coverage under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme was done w.e.f. 01.01.2017, wherein the wage limit was raised from Rs. 15,000/- per month to Rs. 21,000/- per month (Rs. 25,000/- for Persons with disability). (b) & (c): Section 45 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 empowers the Central Government to frame the scheme for unorganized workers, gig workers and platform workers and the members of their families for providing benefits of ESIC. *****
