RING ROAD AROUND BELAGAVI CITY
1377. SHRI IRANNA KADADI:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) the current status of the proposed Ring Road around Belagavi city to divert the heavy traffic;
(b) the details of the alignment finalization and the estimated cost of the project;
(c) the status of the approval from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the project;
(d) the measures taken to acquire land for the construction of the ring road; and
(e) the expected benefits of the project in reducing the pollution and congestion in the city?
ANSWER

(a) to (d) Government keeps on assessing the requirement of ring roads/bypasses for the cities
considering various site specific condition like speed drop, population of the city, economic growth,
number of road entering/exiting the city etc. The decision on investment in taken based on requirement
of connectivity, traffic density and the project synergy with principle of PM-Gati-Shakti Master Plan.
As regards to ring road around Belagavi city, the work of preparation of Detailed Project report(DPR)
is awarded. Further, civil work of one package was also awarded, however due to non-availability of
land, the said award was cancelled. At present, the alignment is under review as per site constraints.
(e) The section from Belagavi to Dharwad was developed to 4-lane in August, 2015. Also Bypass is
under construction as part of Belagavi – Khanapur Project. The Belagavi expansion/bypass is
expected to adequately address the present traffic requirements of the city.
