******STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (D) IN RESPECT OF
RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 244 FOR REPLY ON 16.03.2026
REGARDING SCHEME TO EXPAND THE AIRPORT ASKED BY SHRI KHIRU
MAHTO
(a) to (d): The expansion and upgradation of airports is a continuous process and is
undertaken by the Airport Operators from time to time, depending on the availability of land,
commercial viability, socio-economic considerations, traffic demand/willingness of airlines
to operate to/from such airports. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken
construction of a Parallel Taxi Track (PTT), Rapid Exit Track (RET) and reconfiguration of
the existing Terminal Building to augment the capacity of Ranchi Airport. The timeline for
completion of the airport projects depends upon many factors, such as land acquisition,
availability of mandatory clearances, financial closure, etc.
Bokaro Airport, owned by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has been identified for
development under the Regional Connectivity Scheme - Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-
UDAN). An amount of Rs. 78.50 crore has been incurred towards the development of the
airport infrastructure.
