(a): Health is a State subject. As informed by Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Government is
implementing population-based screening for common cancers (oral, breast and cervical) along
with hypertension and diabetes under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non
Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) of the National Health Mission. Systematic population-based
screening specifically for the three common cancers was initiated in the State from Financial Year
2024-25 onwards: 2nd round of population-based cancer screening is currently ongoing in 2025-
26 (NCD-4 Survey). Prior to 2024-25, only limited opportunistic screening for common cancers
was carried out at health facilities; large-scale population-based screening for oral, breast and
cervicalcancerswas not undertaken.State-wise and district-wise details of persons screened for the three common cancers during 2024
-25 and 2025-26 (till date) are annexed as Annexure-1. In Bapatla district (which entirely falls in
Bapatla Parliamentary Constituency), the screening detailsisasunder:

(d): Preventiveaspect of NCDsis strengthened underComprehensive PrimaryHealthCare through
Ayushman Arogya Mandir. In addition, NP-NCD gives financial support under NHM for
awareness generation (IEC) activities for common NCDs to be undertaken by the States/UTs as
per their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).Other initiatives for increasing public
awareness about cancer and for promotion of healthylifestyle includes observance of national and
international health days and use of print, electronic and social media for continued community
awareness
A population-based initiative for prevention, control and screening for common NCDs, including
oral cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer has been rolled out in the country under National
Health Mission (NHM) as a part of Comprehensive Primary Health Care. Under the initiative,
persons more than30yearsof age are targeted for theirscreening.
Under the ‘Strengtheningof Tertiary Care CancerFacilities Scheme’ 19 StateCancer
Institutes (SCI)and20Tertiary Care CancerCentres(TCCC) have been set upacross the
