On December 12, 2025, Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 193, posed by Shri Ujjwal Raman Singh to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, inquired about the Government's proposal to establish an AIIMS in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the timeline for its completion, and the reasons if no such plan existed.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, responded by stating that under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), 22 AIIMS have already been approved in various States/UTs, including two functional AIIMS in Uttar Pradesh (Raebareli and Gorakhpur). Furthermore, the upgradation of 11 Government Medical Colleges (GMC) in Uttar Pradesh, including Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj, is underway. The upgradation of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj has been approved at the cost of ₹150 Crore (Central share-₹120 crore and State share-₹30 crore) which includes 233 bedded Super Speciality Block with 7 Operation Theatres and 8 Departments, viz. Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery(CTVS), Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Endocrinology and Surgical Oncology. However, there is no proposal under PMSSY to establish a new AIIMS in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

(a) to (c) Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), till date
establishment of 22 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been approved in
various States/UTs in the country including 2 AIIMS in Uttar Pradesh, one at Raebareli
and the other at Gorakhpur. Both Institutes are functional.
Under another component of PMSSY scheme, in the State of Uttar Pradesh, upgradation
of 11 Government Medical Colleges (GMC) has been undertaken on Centre-State cost
sharing basis by way of setting up of super-speciality facilities, which includes Moti Lal
Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj. The upgradation of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College,
Prayagraj has been approved at the cost of ₹150 Crore (Central share-₹120 crore and State
share-₹30 crore) which includes 233 bedded Super Speciality Block with 7 Operation
