In response to Unstarred Question No. 1355, to be answered on February 6th, 2026, regarding the setting up of trauma centers on national highways, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Shri Prataprao Jadhav) stated the following: During the 11th (2007-2012) and 12th (2012-2017) Five Year Plans, under the National Programme for Prevention & Management of Trauma and Burn Injuries (NPPMT&BI), 196 Trauma Care Facilities (TCFs) were sanctioned in Government Hospitals/Medical Colleges across the country, many of which are located near National Highways. States submit proposals for setting up TCFs, which are examined and selected by a committee. Functioning of TCFs are maintained by respective States, since Health is a State subject. The Central Government provides funds as per the allocation under NPPMT&BI and the demand of the State.
