Colleges of Nursing and the present status of their implementation in the State of
Maharashtra;
(e) the details of the funds allocated, released and utilised under the above schemes in

(a) & (b) As perthe Indian Nursing Council, there are around42.94 lakh nursing personnel
registered in the country. Assuming 80% nursing personnel are active in the country, it is
estimated that around 34.35 lakh nursing personnel are available for active services. There
are around 2.63 lakh nursing personal registered in the State of Maharashtra. Districts wise
details of the total number of functional Schools and Colleges of Nursing in the State along
with theirsanctionedintake capacityisat Annexure-I.
(c) to (g) The Government has approved a Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Augmenting
Nursing Education– Establishment of new Colleges of Nursing (CoN) in co-location with
Medical Colleges” toestablish newnursing collegesfor the period from 2023-24 to2026-27.
These new nursing colleges are being established in co-location with the existing medical
colleges established since 2014. Under this scheme, the establishment of six (06) Colleges ofNursing has been approved in the districts of Gondia, Nandurbar, Yavatmal, Chandrapur,
Jalgaon, andSindhudurg.
Further, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare also administers a Central Sector Scheme
titled “Development of Nursing Services”, which provides for the upgradation of existing
Schools of Nursing into Collegesof Nursing. As per the scheme guidelines, an amountof ₹7
crore is released to each School of Nursing for such upgradation. During the last five years,
an amount of ₹21.30 crore has beenreleased under the said scheme to Schoolsof Nursing in
Maharshtra for their upgradation into Colleges of Nursing. The details of funds released
