Shri Virendra Singh: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has any action plan for honing talents among the youth of the most backward/tribal areas of the country and helping them to attain recognition at national level; (b) whether there is any scheme for setting up of sports training centres in the tribal dominated areas to train the tribal children for participating in the national sports events; (c) if so, the time by which it is likely to be implemented; (d) whether the Government proposes to build sports ground/stadium for archery, football, kabaddi etc., as at the available above land in the tribal area of Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh; (e) if so, the details of the funds being allocated under the above head; and (f) if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS { DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA } (a) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development of sports, including honing talents among the youth of the most backward/tribal areas of the country and helping them to attain recognition at national level, setting up of sports training centres in the tribal dominated areas to train the tribal children for participating in the national sports events and building sports ground/stadium for archery, football, kabaddi etc., rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government only supplements their efforts by Page 1 of 2bridging critical gaps. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports implements the following schemes for the promotion of sports in the country, including in the tribal dominated areas of the State of Uttar Pradesh: (i) Khelo India - National Programme for Development of Sports; (ii) Assistance to National Sports Federations; (iii) Cash Incentive to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and their Coaches; (iv) National Sports Awards; (v) Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons; (vi) Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons; (vii) National Sports Development Fund; and (viii) Running Sports Training Centres through Sports Authority of India. Details of the above schemes are available in the public domain on the websites of this Ministry and the Sports Authority of India. (b) and (c) Under the Khelo India Scheme, National Sports Development Fund and Sports Promotional Schemes of Sports Authority of India, various sports training centres and sports academies are being supported across the country, including in the tribal dominated areas to train the tribal children for participating in the national sports events. (d) to (f) There is no proposal under consideration in this Ministry to build sports ground/stadium for archery, football, kabaddi etc. in the tribal area of Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh. ***** Page 2 of 2
