Shobhanaben Mahendrasinh Baraiya Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the present status of PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) launched to strengthen the young talent across the country along with the achievements made in the second round of its pilot phase; (b) the number of students and educational institutions targeted and selected by the Government under the said scheme, State-wise including Karnataka, Rajasthan, Shimla Lok Sabha Constituency of Himachal Pradesh, Sidhi Lok Sabha Constituency of Madhya Pradesh and Jalgaon Lok Sabha Constituency of Maharashtra; (c) the detailed action plan, selection criteria and the process adopted for implementation of the scheme along with the students enrolled and benefited so far, State-wise; (d) the contribution of the scheme in strengthening the career, vocational skills, practical knowledge and employment opportunities for the students; and (e) the status of execution and the expected outcome of the said scheme in various States of the country, including Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Maharashtra? TO BE ANSWERED ON 21ST JULY, 2025 REGARDING ‘STATUS OF PMIS IN SECOND ROUND’ (a) : The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) was announced in the Budget 2024-25. It aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies in five years. As an initiation to this scheme, Ministry of Corporate Affairs has launched a Pilot Project of the scheme on 3rd October, 2024, which is targeted to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the youth in one year. In the round I of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, the partner companies posted more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities on the PMIS Portal across the country. Against this, more than 6.21 lakh applications were received from about 1.81 lakh candidates. Partner companies made over 82,000 internship offers to over 60,000 candidates, out of which more than 28,000 candidates accepted offers to join the internship, and over 8700 candidates joined their internship. In the round II of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, which commenced on 9th January, 2025, about 327 Partner Companies have posted over 1.18 lakh internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous round) across 735 districts of the country. Over 4.55 lakh applications were received from over 2.14 lakh applicants, in this round. As on 17.07.2025, partner companies have made over 71000 offers to the youth and over 22500 offers have been accepted. Currently, rolling out of offers and the process of acceptances/ joining by interns is in progress. (b) : Youth between the age group of 21- 24 years, who have passed High School, Higher Secondary School, possess a certificate from an ITI, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or are graduates with degrees such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc. and are not employed full-time and not engaged in full-time education are eligible to apply. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is actively working with various stakeholders such as state governments, industry associations, educational institutions etc. for promotion and implementation of the scheme. The Ministry is also carrying out Information, Education and Communication activities to reach out to the target groups across the country. The district wise details of the candidates, who have been offered internship by the partner companies in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh and Jalgaon district of Maharashtra is at Annexure I. (c) : The scheme is being implemented through an online portal, which serves as a centralized platform for end-to-end scheme implementation and internship lifecycle management. A dedicated dashboard is provided to each Partner Company on the Portal, for posting Internship opportunities. Eligible candidates then have to register themselves on the Portal, and apply for internship opportunities based on their preferences, including location (state, district), sector, functional role, and qualifications. A pool of candidates, based on theapplications, is shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the portal, and sent to the companies. Companies select candidates and make internship offers based on their respective selection criteria and processes. The total number of candidates who have completed their profiles and registration process under PMIS Pilot Project is over 3.38 lakh in Round I and 3.46 lakh in Round II. The number of offers made to the applicants from that State/ UT, in Round-I and Round II of the PMIS Pilot Project is attached at Annexure II. (d) & (e) Under PMIS, the company is expected to provide the person an actual working experience on a skill in which the company is directly involved. At least half of the internship period would be in the actual work/ real-life business environment. Thus, the scheme provides an opportunity to the youth to get training and gain experience and skills within the real-life environment of various businesses or organizations with the intention of enhancing their employability by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. The number of candidates who have accepted the internship offer under the PMIS, state wise in Round I and Round II is attached at Annexure III.
